Community Photo Challenge, Color

This month's subject is color...but NOT just color. We want to see you create something special color-wise. Something your camera did not see. Something you saw in the photo and created in post processing.

There are a lot of ways color can be used:

1. Selective color...create a black and white or other monochrome photo with just a touch of color...blue eyes, a child's red jacket, whatever you choose, but make most of the image monochrome.

2. Play with the different color modes in your photo editing software. Create a duotone, or make a monochrome using something other than black & white or sepia.

You can post a colorful image... Can be of one color, 2 colors or MANY colors. You do not need any photo editing programs to join in.

This challenge is limited only by your imagination so get out there and IMAGINE COLOR!

I have a Wren moving into the bird house my kids bought me. Such a pretty little song bird.

And I got a new type of tomato plant. It has cherry tomatoes in a hanging basket. It is already loaded with tomatoes.

The doe looks to be going to have some more baby's for me to get shots of.

Spring has inspired me to start shooting again.

One mans motocycle write on a whim. So that is keeping my interest for now. And we just finished this lovely movie, Riding Alone for Thousands of Miles. Lovely country, I would go nuts with my camera and a sweet touching film.

I have been feeling cruddy like am coming down with the up chucks.. It was going around at work so I hope I didn't get it. And Zoey is having a good day today. Not limping as much.

The deer went crazy at the feeders since I cut up some apple and carrots. They were happy little furry critters,

I got a couple of awards this week. Since I am on my long stretch at work I am slow getting them posted. The one above is from the blog The Mind of ~Ifer

So first of all how did I get into blogging................... Starting keeping track of my weight loss and my photos, Have been blogging over 4 years. I started out on a soni cypershot and move up to my canon.. I still consider myself a point and shot photographer but thats not all bad. I shoot what I see when I see. I do think I am seeing some improvement. Anyway blogging is away to see know photography and meet some wonderful people. Hi there wonderful people.

So now then to pick some of my own.

We were driving in Yellowstone and came across several cars pulled over and people taking pictures of some birds in the distance. I leaped out of my car, put my telephoto lens on and started snapping away. "What are shooting at I asked the lady next to me?" I didn't even know, LOL. It must be good though for everyone to stop. My eyes were bad enough I couldn't even see how beautiful they were until I downloaded the photos.

The old packing plant opened in 1917 and will be completely demolished by 2010. In 1974 the packing plant closed, the Stockyards started their slow death and the building stood empty. Then in 1976 a local business man opened it up with numerous small interesting shops, places to eat and a bowling alley. The downtown suits and powers that be at the time fought it tooth and nail sticking so many regulations and hurtles in the way the dream was never fully realized. It died once again only to be vandalized by a couple of young punks who started it on fire. So many memories there. My first bowling league. I taught CPR there. Great little shops and a strange wonderful atmosphere. Goodbye old building.

Daily blog entries is what NaBloMo stands for and it is not as easy as it sounds. Of course I just do my photos which is easier since I addicted to taking photos of everything around me. Anyway check out the site here.

Of course this time of year this is what you see driving around, except finally we have had enough dry days most of the fields are harvested.

With fall comes dead leaves and dust living on a gravel road. Gee, the car really needs washing.

And for good luck for the next years growing season 2 tomatoes left on the vine. They still look good...

Last night we celebrated 36 years of marriage. I made my other half grill me a steak and shrimp. It was cold out so we huddled around the fire in the grill to warm up. Of course the glass of dark Zinfandel didn't hurt either.

The last of the pumpkin broke open to feed the deer, they love them. I think the bottom shot looks like a pumpkin eating a leaf.

And that's it, 5 shots for the 5th on day 5 of blogging everyday. Ta Da..

Omaha is doing lots of work on their riverfront. We decided to see what's new, Wow, It looks great. If they can keep the idiots from putting graffiti all over it should be beautiful for years to come. Click on the shots to see them full size.

The walking/bike trail was wonderful. I connects Nebraska and Iowa. Some idiots had already put graffiti on it but they are blotting them out.

The clouds are the reason the shots are dark but the weather was warm.

I loved the way the little glass bottles swayed in the breeze.

On this shot I was going for the duck between the reeds.

While focusing it I found I liked the look of reeds and thought I would make them the focus with the duck as just a background addition. I like the way both shots turned out. What do you think?

On the way back from the lake a storm was building and starting to move in. The clouds gave the sky a great look behind me....

But in front of me the sky looked completely different, innocent and a lovely color of blue. If things dry up ever the corn looks ready to harvest.

But if you look closely, still a hint of green on most things.

I thought this bird was a tern but now I wonder if it is plover. Anyone know for sure? It is a cutie.

Just found out the bird is a Killdeer.

I feel in love with this wheel chair ramp that goes out to the dock. Make for a great shot also.
Another little bird I am not sure of. Looks like a sea gull but we are a long way from the sea.

The Road Best Traveled

One thing our travels have proved to us over the years that to really see the best of the country you have to get off the most traveled roads. With that in mind on our recent trip to the black hills we went off the beaten tourist roads and took some fire maintenance roads. For miles and miles and miles of beautiful countryside.

We are guessing this old log cabin to be over a hundred years old. We could see it standing there in the very late 1800's or early 1900's.

You go through a few ranches on these roads and cows and horses roam the countryside.
In the red banks you can quartz rock streaking the red with white.

And miles of grasslands with tall pines. I can't even put into words how great the smells were.

In all the miles we traveled on these wonderful roads we didn't see a single billboard or tourist trap usually associated with the Black hills. In fact we only saw 2 other vehicles in over 3 hours.

Disclaimer: These roads should not be taken during any kind of wet weather. We drove through a dry river bed which is subject to flash floods in several places. Rain several miles away could cause you to get stuck and have to turn around as the road will be impassable or possible worse. Know your weather conditions before traveling them. But it will be worth it.

Sometimes you can't see the forest because of the leaves. This weeks theme is perspective and I see this throughout life. You have to look at the big picture, when your perspective is small and narrow you might miss the big glorious picture.

Guess who came to Dinner?

Looking scruffy and thin..... but alive, what a nice surprise. They must have liked the bread I put out for the birds.

The abscess between the mother dears legs has gone down alot. And you can barely see where she was shot. Her pretty summer coat is almost gone. And whatever was wrong with her mouth seems to be fine.

The fawn still looks like it is matted in weeds but not as bad. And it looks pretty bright eyed doesn't it.

The photo's are terrible because I was shooting from the window and they are so twitchy if I made any noise they would both get ready to jump.

And then I was happy to see the missing twin I hadn't seen in weeks stroll into the yard. Looking just as scruffy. I hadn't seen the three of them together for weeks.
