September fun, playing with shadows.

After a long bike ride in September, finishing it off outside with a cool one hits the spot.  I missed the actual entry but took this shot after our ride the other day and liked it.

K

Ok, I am behind, LOL.   This will have to do.  K for kill zone.   In the area's where the hot streams broke through it kills the trees.  Their white twisted skeletons are all over the park, replaced by hot bubbly blue holes in the ground.  Now to come up with a L.  Since I traveled for 3 weeks I should have something in these few hundred photo's that will do.

Just happen to have one.

Nancy mentioned the deer drinking out of the water and just reminded me of this old shot.

Lake

Notice on the below picture the edges are blurred.  Why?  I am wondering what caused this.  I have seen in on several pictures.

M=Moose

I am behind on my letters, for the A to Z Photo Challenge at Perceptions. I need a K and a L.  So for now here is my M while I look through the new photos I took.  For now here is the bull moose that ran across the road.  What a wonderful creature.

Things I noticed

Greg among others recommended I bring both camera's which I did.  I am so glad.   I have always been more of a point and shoot picture taker.  The canon requires more set up and thought process, at least for me right now.  The above picture was with the soni.
The bottom one with the canon.  You can tell we had lots of cloudy days.  I like the quality of both pictures but I think the Canon wins.

However..... for pictures of animals that wouldn't stand still, this wild mustang walking down the road at Theodore Roosevelt National Park I needed the soni.  For the Moose....I needed the Soni, any fast moving animal like Antelope....the soni.  by the time I got the Canon set up I just got butt shots.   Does it get quicker as you get used to the camera?

Now taking shots around here is going to be difficult.  Sigh.  Time to travel again.

Animals from the Trip

I decided to do a slideshow because it just looks better larger.  I am slowly getting them loaded.  Anyway there is a horse picture that I just really love.  can you guess which one?   That little squirrel was behind our cabin and just the loudest chattiest thing you ever saw.  It yelled at us every morning while we had coffee on the deck.  We saw buffalo in every park we went to.  Lots of antelope.

AOL Community Photo Challenge: Summer

Entries need to be in on Thursday, September 11th, to be eligible to enter the first Challenge of the new year.  We will select the top images that best represents the subject "Summer"--AND comprises the best photographic qualities (composition, lighting, etc., as well as presentation).  We are looking for your best or favorite shot of Summer 2008.  Once we select the top images,  we will post a poll and let the AOL Community decide the Best Summer Photo of 2008. The poll will be posted on Friday, September 12th, along with the top images. Voting will end on Sunday, September 14th.

I have several pictures I could choose from but this one I think really shows the fun we had looking at all the beautiful area's in this country.  This is Rick on top of the highest overlook at Flaming Gorge.  It was a beautiful day and the view took our breath away.

Grand Tetons

For the longest time I wanted to see the Grand Tetons.   I did finally.  Plus Yellowstone,  Cameron Pass, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota.   I will slowly be posting pictures but it is slow going.  I am glad I brought both camera's.   My spare battery on the Canon died and it took me awhile to get used to using it.  Today the store replaced the entire camera because the battery was dead.  So today I start all over with a brand new Canon.  So anyway....expect lots of pictures slowly.  It takes so much time to sort and download them.
