The old tree

This old tree is in my old yard.  We moved next door when we moved so we have the whole block.  Over the years we kept thinking it would die.  It is home to birds, squirrels and many insects.  At one time there was an old chain growing out of one of the branches, but that one finally died.

Our tree man tried for years to talk us into cutting it down since it was so hollow, but we wouldn't.  We would sit in the window and watch the new baby birds learn to fly.  The baby squirrels poke their heads out to see the world for the first time.  Every winter we were sure it had died but every spring it burst forth full of life, from the inside out.

I just love this old tree and we have decide to let it die a natural death and live as long as it wants.  Its ugly and most people wouldn't want it in their yard even if it was a ways off......  but we do.

Fabulous photograph of an old veteran tree.  I agree with you Julie....that tree has seen a lot of life and deserves to take its time to go.  May it outlive us all!   Jeanie

That tree should still be there even after it dies, it is so beautiful.

It still cracks me up how you refer to the land behind your house as the yard. Here a yard is about 9 feet by 9 and is paved with brick, or slabs, not quite what you call a backyard!!!

I can see why you would want to keep that in your yard.  It really has a lot of character to it.  There is a certain rotting tree that I'm kind of attached to as well, so I know where you are coming from.

I love that tree and I don't blame you about not cutting it down as long as it is not in any danger of a building. Helen

Julie, great flower pictures. The tree seems to be every ones favorite. Not very colorful or nicely shaped but it is still a beautiful thing and imagine what it has seen in it's lifetime.
Do you have any idea how old it is? Bill

I love your old tree! In a time when everyone is cutting down trees and not replacing any wildlife. I'm delighted to read your letting it live out it's existance. (Hugs) Indigo
