Winter shots

I was out and about looking for some interesting shots. What I really wanted was a red tailed hawk. Usually they are a dime a dozen when I don't have my camera but now that I had my camera and my new 70 -300 mm lens not a one to be seen. Not a pheasant, not a Canadian goose, not a red fox, nada nothing. So.... something we do have plenty of. Old corn fields and old fences, snow and more snow.

It is so hard not to get reflection from the snow. I forgot my polarized filter so the corn is bleached out. With each new lens is a new learning experience.

The water always looks blue when it is frozen, kind of a blue green. I liked the colors. Makes it look later in the day then it was when I took this.

I was looking for something Ruby for the ruby Tuesday photo shoot. Wasn't sure if these would be red enough.

The barn below was just way to bleached out in the shot. So I played with it. I like the way it turned out. Looks like I painted it....

Ruby Tuesday

The Petunia in the back is redder then the first but they both are some of my favorite flowers. My first Ruby Tuesday, but no my last. To see more red works visit Mary the Teach.

watery Wednesday

Watery Wednesday
is a new one for me. I decided this nice rainbow speckled trout would do for my first entry. Lots of water. For more water shots click on the link above or better yet, join in.

Missing the Flowers

Close your eyes and smell, you can almost smell them. I can't wait.

Monochrome Monday

Go to Alieni's wonderful blog to see the other shots from around the world.

I had fun playing with this photo. Another from my fog series this was almost black and white to start with. I just deepened the contrast and increased my colors initially to give it more depth. Then I made everything black and white except the checker board. To give it a sense of ageand make it a little more dramatic I added some film grain. I am in love with this type of framing technique and having a hard time at the moment convincing myself to use any other type of frame for now. So the finished product.

Here is the untouched photo. You can see it needed to be cropped.

SOOC Sunday

I just ran across this meme and wanted to join along. Please click on the camera above to go see the other participants at Jan's from Murrieta 365.

Another shot from the deeply foggy day at the park. Untouched and straight from the camera. I will probably do some cropping on it later, who knows.

Shadow Shot Sunday.

Harriet from Hey Harriet posts Shadow Shot Sunday
. Please click on the link to see shots from all over the world and play along. This is my first time but I think I will be back.

I took these shots a few months back but thought of them for my first Shadow Shot Sunday. After a nice long bicycle ride a cool one hits the spot.

Playing with fog photo's

I actually kind of like this foggy park shot, it looks just like it did when I was there. I haven't touched this shot, but I couldn't help but play with it in picnik

The shot below I added some depth to the trees by contrasting them and increasing the temp until I got this color. The I added the crystallizing effect and moved it around until I got the effect I wanted. It almost looks like the sun is breaking through the fog and trees. After I got the shot the way I wanted I used a museum matte frame to finish it off. And I am pretty happy with the results.

Sky Watch Friday

Our Friday was soupy with fog, you can just make out the ice fisherman on the frozen lake. This is the actual color also, shades of gray.

Question

Anyone familiar with old fashioned lithopanes? With the photo below I was trying to give it that look. I wanted it to look lit from behind and also like an old photo. What do you think? What could I do to improve it? Click on the photo to enlarge it.

Practicing sepia

I took this photo which I always liked because it reminds me of a really fun day we had at a bock fest and used some tips I got to get a better sepia shot.

I increased the reds as recommended and then converted to black and white and then to sepia. Played around with the warmth alittle. So what do you think. Whenever the whether improves outside I will try looking for shots to covert but for now. Practice makes perfect.....hopefully. Click on picture to enlarge.

Monochrome Maniacs

Go to Aileni's Monochrome Maniacs for more B & W shots. It will be worth the look.

The cold frozen lake with the shadows falling over the ice made for an interesting black and white. I think the chill comes through even in the shot.

Winter Solstice

Happy Winter Solstice, the days all get longer from here.

Another cool old black and white photo. I used to have a editing program to repair old photo's like this but for some reason it got lost in the move. Anyone know of one that I could get to do the repairs with that isn't to challenging? My old program was so easy and I sure miss it. Wish I could remember what it was called.

Camera Critter #36

To play along on Camera Critters all you have to do is find a critter, and take a shot. Please click on the link to check out more entries.

How to make your dog happy. Dump 6 inches of snow on the ground....take dog for walk in yard.

Tired of the snow already, gee just a few months ago.....

When Black and White Ruled.

The photo below was of my husband's Grandmother. No I didn't take it, LOL. I am guessing from her age in this it was done in the late 1800's or early 1900's. These were her traveling clothes for coming to the United States. I think it is a grand photo.
